The Background

Newly enacted legislation called the Family Law Modernization Act required the Manitoba Government to seek ways to provide family law services to the public in a more accessible, efficient, and effective manner.

The Opportunity

The Manitoba Government formed the Family Law Modernization Team, which worked with Relish to ideate how best to deliver this mandate.

It was clear that a shift away from traditional face-to-face interactions toward technology was central to providing greater accessibility. However, securing funding for full project development required a web application proof of concept.

Relish needed to correctly map out and translate face-to-face interactions into user-to-technology interactions within a web application. Stakeholders would then test out a prototype of this web application.

The Solution

Relish collaborated with the Family Law Modernization Team to develop a detailed click-through prototype of a web application for family law services and mediation tools.

To measure the prototype’s user experience, the team mapped out a robust test plan utilizing discussion, instruction, questionnaires, and self-guided exercises. Over multiple sessions, data and feedback were harvested, which helped develop a technical specification document to supplement the Family Law Modernization Teams request for funding.

As a result of this approach to leverage technology, the Manitoba Government now offers faster, more effective online legal services for the people who need them and took giant strides toward fulfilling the mandate required by the new legislation.
